with a side of crazy
After 4 months and 6 days of nothing, I'm back ! I've got lots to rant about and I never finished the site change I wanted to do, so I've put up the bit I did finish.
On the geek front the following have occurred; The uptime of ike passed the 497 days, 2 hours, 27 minutes and 53 seconds uptime overflow on linux 2.4 and is now 155 days past this, so it's around 634 days since last reboot which was on February 17 2004. In this time it's even moved rooms. My snapgear rebooted when I changed isp's. I churned to Westnet back in late August, and it has been mostly ok, though I think swiftel was faster. I guess you do get what you pay for to a certain extent.
I've watched Firefly, Freaks and Geeks, tons of movies (listed on the right) and started watching Voyager from the beginning.
Panda, my former file server got replaced by my new revision, chef. Initially running Fedora core 3, I later upgraded it to FC4. Chef started life with a 4 disk raid 5 array of 250gb sata drives, and a single 74gb raptor for system data, but shortly after received a 2nd 4 disk raid 5 array of matching 250gb sata drives. Yes that's 9 drives in a case, a special case, a Chenbro RM414 4RU file server chassis. The raid 5 arrays are encrypted completely with 256 bit AES. To make sure this doesn't slow the machine down, I put a 3.2ghz Pentium 4 in there, and 2gigs of ram. I've managed to stream 70megabytes a second onto it using samba onto one of the encrypted volumes, so the onboard GigE is very good. The power supply on the other hand, an Antec TruePower 550w, is a heap of crap. On their site they claim between 70 and 80% efficiency, yet the unit I have draws 1100w when the CPU is at full load, and my calculations indicate the gear shouldn't be drawing over 400w after the PSU. I'm not happy about that cause chunky power supplies like that aren't cheap.
I want to sell my iriver cause I'm not using it.
I've been to darwin and back so many times I'm now a silver frequent flier.
At work I have 2 pc's and a dual head graphics card with 2 17" LCD monitors now, yay, took me 3 years to get it but I got there in the end.
Monday night Floorball is taking off, we've got 25 teams playing so we're out of time slots. I'm umpiring too which is a brand new experience, but I'm not very good. Practice will make me better. I'm trying to get to thursday night training but I keep getting held back at work or other things come up to prevent me from going.
I've also joined a gym, though I'm not going as regularly as I should. I need to turn my life around and make time to go regularly every day or so.
if you pick a job you love, you'll never work a day in your life.
