I went to the home theatre shop and did it. Yes it. And you know you’ve done it when you have $700 worth of cable hanging out the back of a cabinet. Following that I went to the dvd shop and did it again. The collection has grown again despite my best efforts to curtail its growth.

Work has been very busy lately, and home has been hot so I haven’t been upstairs using the PC, so posts have been few and far between. I finally bit the bullet and fixed the new layout for the site which will be up soon (or it could be up now depending on when you read it). I’ll do some more tweaking of it over the next few weeks, most likely reducing the number of film reviews (from 10 to 6) and main posts from 3 back to 2. Remember the older stories are still all online. I even changed the poll for the first time since October 2002, damn that was ages ago. Other site wide changes include, the odd section is gone because I stopped updating it, the articles are gone because I never wrote a new one since putting it up, the about pages were shockingly out of date so they’ve been taken down too. But with these pages going away, I put up a dvd/home theatre page listing my dvds and some of my home theatre equipment, and a page detailing the rules of the circle game is now up.

Walan and reload both passed.

We’ve been playing the circle game more and more and, it still rocks.

My brother came up to my place to get drunk and go to the big day out. I nearly went but ended up cleaning up my house instead, and it’s still so messy right now.

A video card died on me (the fan stopped) which made me a bit sad, so I got the cheapest ATI card I could and it’s tv out works sweet, and cause it’s so cheap it doesn’t need a fan, Bonus. Also the Svideo cable plugged into it is worth nearly as much. I’m sure home theatre cable pricing is a rort.

Splat.cx is back for another year. Thanks goes out to all of you who donated some hard earned cash, you know who you are.

New eMule Plus is out, had to update my mod to it.

Following a recent power interruption I rewired my UPS and tested it. After 2 hours with no visible drop in battery capacity I figured the UPS is operating well. I’d love to know exactly how long it can run for, I’m guessing at least 5 hours, probably closer to 8. I may even put my desktop PC onto it (currently it has the web/mail server, router, modem and gig ethernet switch).

If you haven’t already seen them, go watch the ad’s from the Bush in 30 seconds competition. Some of the finalists are great!

If you try anything, anything, at all, I will be on you like a rainbow on an oil slick!

Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over is nearly the latest film from director Robert Rodriguez. It is the third film in a recent series each film being released a year apart. This one takes the Spy Kids Juni and Carmen on their third assignment, to save the world from an evil madman (well another evil madman) who goes by the name The Toymaker. The main part of the movie takes place inside a virtual reality video game, and this part of the film is presented in 3D so you need 3D glasses to watch it.

Apart from it being a kid’s movie I thought it was really good. I found the story entertaining enough and the characters and settings were really colourful. The use of 3d wasn’t really needed and was more of a gimmick that anything else, but it was done really well. There were plenty of references to the first 2 films so I was pleased that I took the time to watch the first 2 before going to see it. I give this at least an 8 out of 10. Highly recommended for anyone who like me is still a kid at heart.

The Royal Tenenbaums came up as suggested viewing after Igby Goes Down. The suggestion was pretty much it’s like Igby but way better so I simply had to watch it.

The film is similar to Igby in a few ways. Firstly it deals with a dysfunctional rich family dealing with an immanent death in the family. In Igby’s case the death is presented early on, but only occurs later in the film. Both films tell the story of successful people who through their own success end up failing. In The Royal Tenenbaum’s case the child prodigies all seem to suffer a failure or fall from their heights. In Igby this role is shown by Igby’s schizophrenic father who had success but then suffered a mental breakdown, Igby used this as a reason to not aim too high.

Personally I liked Igby more than Royal Tenenbaums though Royal did display some thought provoking concepts. I won’t be adding it to my DVD collection but it is definitely worth a watch if you have not seen it.
