I haven’t done a post in so long probably because I’ve been so busy with work and moving and stuff, allow me to elaborate, oh and for those that missed it, I dyed my hair blonde and just this week cut it off.
Walan came and went, as did the disk space free. I managed to upload 580gig over the 32 hours of the lan. My fileserver is working fine and dandy now, although rather full it still has around 50gig free. Sadly it’s a Windows 2000 server for now as I was having problems with the Promise (cough *piece of shit* cough) ide controllers under Linux, and thats not saying its clear sailing in 2000 either, there are still issues, probably related to having 2 additional ATA133 controllers present in the system. moan
I moved, so did DSL, now 1.5meg down 256k up, sweet. I’m now over the road from Subiaco, literally, even street numbers are in Wembley, odd are in Subi. I now live a 30 minute walk from work (no more train for me) or a 10 minute bike ride each way (that is from Wembley to West Perth where my office is, as opposed to my employers offices which are in Nedlands). The geek pad is fully decked out, DVDs filling out shelves, Playstation2, Divx PC, big screen TV, sub, couches, beer fridge. Theres also a Subway right around the corner, and a jesters, and a dominos, and a food hall, and a drive through liquor store, and a maccas and a red rooster.
Since relocating to the wasteland of West Perth the lunch options shrunk dramatically, and 9 times out of 10 it’s subway for lunch. Steve (Boo boo) and I have become frequent customers and we know many of the staff by name, and I’ve even had the pleasure of not having to order as Emma =) know’s my order … *wink*.
Work has been busy, but I’m still learning so much, it just never stops. I now know some COM and from what I’m told, using ATL to do COM is easy compared to the bad old days of MFC COM. I have now written a component that will be extensively reused over the next 6 months and it’s so generic I still have nightmares about it. My l33t C++ skillz have improved 10 fold or more since moving up here.
I’m currently contemplating implementing my tournament control system in Oracle Workflow using Oracle Advanced Queues, that is totally in the database. I’m planning on using XML messages between an app to be run on the client, (which will function as the launcher aswell), to create teams, query fixtures and submit results. Currently in the design phase.
Now for news on the alternative OS front: I’m still disillusioned with Red Hat, still waiting on Gentoo 1.4 final and not overly pleased with Coyote’s Wolverine for going commerical (must pay to get flavour of commerical linux). It also looks like Atheos is dead, I haven’t been able to get to the site in weeks now, but just today I did come across a fork of the project, Syllable, a better name for an OS in my opinion, as the other people tend to think your against God or really into Darwins theorys more than the average chicken on the street.
Speaking of the average chicken on the street, I wasn’t the only one who found the following slashdot comment funny:

Yeah, I once tried to sell VB code to schoolchildren, but my conscience gave me too much grief and I went back to selling them pornography and heroin instead.
Moving right along, I found a great site for downloading Mame ROMS for those arcade boards we all have in the back of our cupboards but can nolonger use. www.mame.dk.
My Liteon burner decided to stop burning CDRW’s on me and it turned out not to be a windows problem, so I returned it, the replacement burner is fully operational on first inspection, but I’m yet to try to burn much with it.
Watched some more movies. Speedway Junky was, well bad but had some concepts that were interesting, no wait a minute, it didn’t, Jason X was worse, but still not as bad as the worst movie of all time, Teenage Caveman (which I’ve bitched about before I’m sure).
Thats about it for another month. I might try to post more frequently if I have time, which I won’t so I know this is a lie.
I bought one of those camouflage shirts and put it in my closet. Now I can’t find it.
