Feb 16

The past few weeks have flown by so fast I’m beginning to wonder if there’s a warp in the space time continuum near me or that I pass through often. I’m filling my uber vehicle of d00m up nearly every week now (about every 8 days now) due to distance being travelled. Also, as I’ve been driving around town more my economy has dropped dramatically :(

Last night was a fun lan of sorts at docs place which involved much Avp2 (which I haven’t attempted to run in linux to date), some Rtcw and UT CTF, but the main course was Classic CTF mode of Threewave CTF for Quake 3. Much fun was had by all involved.

I might be making a go of the gourmet web hosting business if things go well. I don’t think I’ve posted anything about it before here or not (would I look something like that up, obviously not), either way, I’ve been looking at getting better web hosting basically since I realised all of the issues with portland were not going to go away without paying for a better service. I’ve also wanted to host a domain since I got splat.cx in the first place, just over 2 years ago. Initially as a see what I can do type of thing, but also for reasons of using advanced features on the site (php, mysql, syndicating news, streaming audio and or web cams etc). So what I’m looking at doing is running a web hosting company / facility where sites can be hosted cheaply with access to this sort of advanced features but with a level of service that exceeds most web hosts around (let alone locally owned and operated ones). This idea / goal will not be easy to achieve, but I feel there is a market out there and if you build it they will come. (As in the GNU philosophy) Of course whether this gets off the ground or not depends on many factors, I’ve had many ideas with potential before and nothing has happened before.

I too have been conned into this Droid Arena thing. It seems fun, but it seems like it could take up all of your day or very little of it at all, depending on how often you want to (unless theres addiction in it that I haven’t come across yet).

The dual celeron front now has renewed interest from the 3PixelBob faction, and lesser interest from the other 3 factions, maybe it will sell, maybe it won’t. If it doesn’t sell, I guess I’m outta pocket to buy beefier servers for Reload Gaming 2.0, or we don’t get beefier servers and just keep playing CS grin. (I should setup a donate money to the update smegs servers fund on paypal (who just IPO’d))

I get knocked down, but I get up again.

Your never keep me down.

I seem to have no time, yet boredom is setting in, Reload 1 went smooth, I got some video footage, but the majority of it is sub par so I’m still undecided how seriously I’ll make up a clip of it.

Good news, splat.cx is here for at least another 2 years, as I’ve renewed the registration and managed to score a nice 2 years for the price of one deal 1 day before the deadline of the special. I recall briefly my stating an intention to host this site myself withing a year (which I said probably more than a year ago). Well I’ve got myself 2 years left to make it happen *grin*.

At this time I’m still working for Phoenix IT in Bunbury. I am looking for more fulfuling (full time) work around the place. At this stage I see 3 potential courses of action (numbered but in no particular order):

  1. If I get the contract job at Gateway I’m looking at moving to Bunbury probably by myself at first and take it from there. This depends on Gateway getting the contract from the WA government AFAIK.
  2. elseif move to Perth if I get a job up there
  3. else No change

This work and this year business is taking a fairly heavy toll on me, I don’t know why but my parents attitude to it makes me even less inclined to bother anymore, perhaps I should set a deadline as to my moving out for good, and make it sooner rather than later. I didn’t get the worsley job, so they are officially a pure form of evil now.

I still haven’t ebayed the miro card, the ad is done somewhere but I haven’t had the time lately. Still no sign of money from the 3 pixel bob person, if I had money to bet on when or if at all I’d see the money, I’d be putting my money on never. :( Lifes like that, I had better start shopping round for people wanting a classic celeron dual machine in mint (barf) condition.

On the linux front, I nearly got swayed from debian, this time by Sorcerer Linux, it’s a source based distro with similar auto download features to debian’s apt-get. It is also kept very up to date (new isos are released every few days with distrowatch.com.

I got icq working again. Had to resort to CVS dump of licq, but it tells the server that is 2001b so all is ok. IRC is still evil.
