I'm still busy

Again lots of stuff, new burner is nice, it works which makes it much better than my old one. Of course I still have a chronic blank cd shortage, which will be remedied soon. Also short for the time being is hard drive space.

New NVidia drivers for linux are out, they fix the lets put the monitor into sleep mode bug I had when exiting X-windows. Very cool, I think. I borrowed T2 special edition off my brother, yet to watch it.

I bought a new tyre yesterday, just one, I still need 3 more, but this was kinda urgent as tyres aren't meant to make pop sounds when being used under normal operating procedures.

I spent some time today (and yesterday) capturing Neon Genesis Evangelion. Tom's tapes aren't the best, and at some points the capture aborts on excess frame drop. Maybe this could be better with a better VCR, but my $50 Sanyo seems to work fine on most tapes. The quality of the resulting DivX files aren't too bad, though the file size is a bit on the large size (the result of noise on the signal taking more bits to compress, making the file bigger). Hopefully someone will like them at the lan and swap for something cool. Heres hoping, right now I'm divxing episode 13, and I've already captured episode 14 so it'll be done for tomorrow.

Nero Burning Rom got lucky with todays odd picture, or should I say the latest odd picture for the last few days. Lan tomorrow, won't be updating from there, so until Sunday or there abouts.

Lots of stuff

Lots of stuff has happened, thats why theres been no updates, I've been that busy. UWALAN was great, as my last post said, the whole weekend cost me $7.50 which was pretty good, plus we all learnt a lot. The celeron server is now running windows 2000 again, Linux Quake 3 is not stable enough with the osp mod for running servers, personally I've never had the client crash under linux, but it if seg faulted and dumped core with less than 10 players in it thats not good. Though only one of the servers did that, the 2nd one, but still. Linux Quake 3 1.27g is still beta1 release. I did manage to get 3 servers going all with people in them, rocket arena 3 (v1.5) with 8 players, osp ffa dm with 12 players and q3 pure dm with 8 players. Each instance of the q3ded executable takes about 30 meg of ram, and 2 meg per extra player. Good thing is you don't need IP address aliases unless you run more than 4 servers off one IP address (or on non-standard ports). Right now, I'm looking at log analysers for q3. There are many, but I see why people write their own for their big lans. UWALan's one is nice, but hard coded to UWALan's page format.

New burner tomorrow, the Sony 32x12x8 (CRX-160E) from PC-budget for the snappy cheap price of $298.10 30 bucks more than the 140E (8x4x32 one). My year old Panasonic will be retired somewhere else, maybe an anti static bag on my desk for some time.

Redhat 7.1 is out, I'm not downloading it yet, maybe next week. Unless someone with ADSL and 3 gig free can get it before the SWGN this Saturday that is. Planet mirror is fast in Australia. (I usually download the 5 cd isos: disk1, disk2, SRPMS, docs, powertools)

I went crazy with Winamp plugins the other night a uni, and I've got some nice ones... Translucent Winamp on 2k sweet.

Number 122 of the collection is up. Got this one today, so it's another one hot off the gimp.

The celeron server has Linux with Reiser FS installed. It has quake 3 on it, all set up for serving, rocket arena 3, osp tourney and team arena. If I have time, I might even put UT on it for a laugh.

UWALAN is tomorrow was yesterday, so I won't be wasn't around to update, of course sunday afternoon you'll get an action packed update with lots of juicy details.

I wrote the above on friday, but didn't post it. Oh well. It's done, it's happened, it was worth going. The tournaments were run by Privatteer and myself, Privatteer taking all the credit for his excellent job of scraping a decent CS tourney out of the remains of the uwalan servers that weren't, and my q3 server configs were used for the q3 tournament which was just about as rushed as the CS one (but had far less players, by around a factor of 6). CS had 26 teams of 6, Q3 had 27 players. Basically there weren't enough monitors for all of the servers, and none of them were working properly when we got there, (not working on the network, no drivers installed, let along game servers and configs).

All things considered this was probably the best Uwalan I've been to. The network was crap due to the sponsored 16 port switches being on a truck on the Great Eastern Highway somewhere, but there was much to look at (read l33ch), the tournaments fell in a stinking heap due to many factors, but a great time was had by all parties involved. I feel that the atmosphere of the room was just perfect, no one was unhappy or angry about anything too serious though maybe the pizza stuff up that wasn't Sven182's fault (hehe) probably made some people rather pissed. Even the vote stuffing of the music server was good for a laugh. Bottom line, I had a good time and enjoyed myself, that was the whole point of me going.

The daily updates have fallen in a stinkin heap too, not to worry, I've got plenty of quotes left. My inablility of making more applications crash has made my collection of odd screen shots rather small as of late. Theres less than 20 left (shock, horror, disbelief). But here's my last attempt at installing Microsoft Flight Sim 2000 (which I think is a really great sim) under Windows 2000 (which is a better OS than 9x). Let's entitle it No not there!.

Post-mortem

I'm a day late, I'm not dead so don't send out the search party just yet. The essay is in. I'm so pleased. I got another futurama episode last night. 308 - That's Lobstertainment.

Today is prepare for UWALAN, day 1. First stop on the line, is burn stuff. Pity my burner is far from perfect working order. I put a disk in just now, and just after passing the yes the disk is blank stage, it started making it's clicking and clunking sounds, so I thump the drive and it stops making wierd sounds. So I'm sitting here waiting for my coaster to eject itself ... (time warp) ... It's not a coaster, hmmm. Now I'm really wondering, is this burner ok now, better find something else to burn, ah ha, Redhat errata. While on the subject of burners, the Sony 32x12x8 has dropped below $300 (AUD), might have to busk some more to get one. (time warp) 5 cd's and one coaster later, the burner is still going strong.

Let's get some odd madness going here, nah better not. Number 120 is hot off the Gimp.
